Micro for ID

This moth appeared in my lounge today.  It is about 5-6mm long.  It's certainly new to me and looks to be a Pammene species, of which I have precisely none on my garden list to date.  I'm guessing it is Pammene albuginana, but I would like confirmation or otherwise please. I'm afraid the picture is a little dark even though I lightened it quite a bit.

  1. Hi Adam, Peter would of course be able to confirm for sure in the usual fashion if you still have the moth! However, to me I don't think there's much doubt that it is Pammene albuginana, especially with the light brown palps and frons which would seem to rule out the rarer Pammene species with which it might otherwise be confused. There are only about eight or so records for Bucks so it is a nice find. The moth is associated with 'oak-apple' wasp galls and I know you are adjacent to woodland.

  2. Thanks both. My only other thought was Pammene argyrana. Do the light brown palps and frons effectively eliminate this? And yes, there are plenty of oaks in the near vicinity.

  3. Yes indeed, Adam. It doesn't look at all right for argyrana.
