Now things have quietened down (only one moth last night!) I'm going through my photos trying to identify some of those I deferred identifying at the time. This was recorded on 12th July and I think it's a Dusky Brocade, but I'm far from certain, so would appreciate confirmation or otherwise.

ReplyDeleteAt least I was right to be dubious about Dusky Brocade! They do look fairly similar though, at least to my inexperienced eye.

To be fair, your example is very worn and the outer cross-line which might have helped with an ID is almost invisible here. The most obvious deciding factor is the curved black edging to one side of the orbicular stigma (oval) which usually remains clear in worn specimens, as it does here.
