A Hundred up in the Garden

Last night's garden result at Westcott, Bucks passed the 100 species barrier for the first time in 2014 with 107 species found in and around the trap, although there weren't all that many new arrivals:  Emmetia marginea, Blastodacna hellerella, Acleris variegana, Lozotaenia forsterana, Rhopobota naevana, Catoptria falsella, Yellow-tail, Short-cloaked Moth, Olive & Lunar-spotted Pinion.  As is to be expected at this time of year, Heart and Dart was the most numerous species with 99 counted, although the combined numbers of Hoplodrina (Uncertain and Rustic) are rising steadily now with 50 caught.  Dave Wilton

  1. I'm down in Wales at the moment, but I had 160 Heart & Dart last night (plus 112 Dark Arches). Probably more, but the blackbirds and magpies got into the external stuff before I got up!
