Three from last night - I thought the first was an Orange Footman, but the resting shape isn't right according to Townsend so maybe a Buff Footman? Then a Common Footman I think and finally Aleimma loeflingiana?

I agree with all 3 (yes to Orange Footman).
ReplyDeleteI agree too. Despite having been out for a while, Orange Footman is still going strong and some still look quite fresh, just like your example. If you have a look at Nigel Partridge's pictures of Buff Footman on the UK Moths website you'll see a typical example of that species - some orange around the edge of the wing but otherwise an obvious buff colour. The wings also have a more angular appearance when at rest than is shown in the field guide (again, Nigel's pictures show this well). It is more of a woodland species than the other common ones (Dingy, Scarce and Common) but you could still get it in your garden.
