I took a batch of photos last month and am just going through them using a key Dave Wilton put up a while back. This first lot were all on Copper beech.
The first I think might be Parornix fagivora, if not I've seen it but just need to get some later pics
the second is perhaps Phyllonorycter maestingella
the third I'm thinking is Stigmella tityrella?

Hello Mark, the second and third pictures look OK for an active mine of Phyllonorycter maestingella (will probably contain a pupa by now) and an aborted mine of Stigmella tityrella (I think I can see the deceased larva). The first one looks to me as though it contains a Phyllonorycter-shaped larva so is presumably an early mine of either maestingella or messaniella before it has caused the leaf to contract.
ReplyDeletethanks Dave. I'm going to see if I can find any of the Parornix fagivora with the turned over leaf edges and put those up. Working through the other ones when I get some more time!
