Just to add more data to Steve's fog research, we caused dense clouds of artificial fog with fireworks last night. The cordite smell lingered until late but this morning there were moths in the trap, albeit only four: a Feathered Thorn, a November/Autumnal, a Blair's Shoulder-knot and this Dark Sword-grass (I hope my ID for that is correct).
