A Few NFY

In spite of the cold nights of late, I left a light at work and added a handful of species to my year list, which I'm sure everyone else has already seen for the year. Semioscopis steinkellneriana, Yellow Horned, Early Thorn, Pale Pinion, Clouded Drab and Nut-tree Tussock.

Also in my garden this afternoon, a single Adela reaumurella.

  1. Well, Dave, I'm clearly not "everyone". For me, no Semioscopis steinkellneriana, Yellow Horned, Early Thorn, Pale Pinion, nor Nut-tree Tussock! No Adela reaumurella either. No shortage of Clouded Drab, though.

Compared with this date in 2020, I'm still to see Shuttle-shaped Dart, Red-green Carpet, Muslin Moth, Shoulder Stripe, Waved Umber, Least Black Arches, Lesser Swallow Prominent, Purple Thorn, and Pale Brindled Beauty.

Overall, diversity is down, but abundance is not: I've had ten fewer species in 2021 compared to 2020 (35 vs. 45). The total number of moths caught has been fractionally higher this year (415 vs 315), with similar amounts of trapping effort.
