Treehopper

In a fairly full but unexciting trap on 8th was this weird insect. It is Ledra aurita, a treehopper. It does not appear to have an English name so I hereby name it 'Mouse-eared Treehopper'. My thanks go to Martin Harvey for identifying it.

  1. Hello Dave,
I'm absolutely not a fan of giving made-up English names to many insects (particularly micro-moths) but I'm afraid in this case someone has beaten you to it - try a Google search for "Eared Leafhopper"! Ledra aurita is a fantastic looking beast and I'm surprised you haven't seen it before as it is quite common, particularly at this time of year. It has certainly appeared everywhere I've been trapping in Bucks over the past week or two.
