Help needed with a micro

I found this small micro (fw length 5mm) flying around my kitchen yesterday evening. I am struggling to identify it - can anyone help?

  1. Hi Steve,
It is a Tineid but, as you've realised, its markings don't seem to fit readily with any of the common species. Best to get it checked because it looks to me as if it could perhaps be Triaxomasia caprimulgella. This was thought to be very uncommon but in recent years it has been found to come readily to the LUN pheromone lure (for Lunar Hornet Moth) and as a result there have been many more records of it.

  2. Thanks Dave. I have kept the moth for checking.

  3. How about Nemapogon granella? Is it a little early for caprimulgella? And granella is often found indoors. Agree with Dave though - one for checking more closely.

  4. It seems similar to the colony of N. granella I have at home, but there are some differences of detail in the markings and the scales on the head are not as yellowish as mine. On the other hand, my colony was an accidental import from France, so might not be representative of the species here. Let's see what happens.
