Could someone please put a positive i.d. on the attached. It doesn't appear to be a Dagger, or perhaps it's a (Light) Knot Grass. Confused of Garsington.
Steve Lockey (Garsington)

Tried a few more before it got frisky

  1. Assuming you've still got the moth, could you try for a better image please, Steve, from above and outside the pot so that we have a clearer idea of what it looks like? You can add it by clicking on the yellow pencil symbol beneath your post which will take you back to the composition page.

  2. Hindwing colour too if you can manage that as well.

  3. Thanks for providing the extra pictures, Steve. I'm not familiar with Light Knot Grass but it simply isn't found south of a line from the Severn to the Wash (...and Garsington isn't well known for its moorland or bog habitats!) so I think we can safely rule that one out. I believe your moth is still either Dark or Grey Dagger. Even though the "Dagger" marking is very indistinct it does appear to be visible in the picture taken with its wings open inside the pot.

  4. Thanks Dave,I agree that it doesn't seem typical of any one exactly which is why I was confused.
