ID help please

Having been away for 2 weeks and then running my garden trap on Friday and Saturday nights I have, not surprisingly, noticed a massive improvement in both the number of individuals and species, Having spent a lot of yesterday going through the books I have tried to narrow my questions down to the following four moths. Any help would be much appreciated as always.

  1. Hello Andy, Flame Carpet then Mottled Rustic and Marbled Minor agg. for the first three but the last one is too washed out to be sure what it is!

  2. Thank you once again for your help. I thought the marking on the Marbled Minor agg. was particularly striking. On a slightly different, moth related matter. Over the last 2 weeks I have run my trap in the foothills of the French Pyrenees. As well as many familiar UK moths I caught a number of moths that would be noteworthy in the UK including Orache, Delicate, Scarce Hook-tip (my favourite), Great Peacock (everyone else's favourite even if it was too big to get into the trap!), Lesser Belle, Dusky Hook-tip?, Mocha plus a few I have failed to identify. Of course they could easily be species not in the UK moth books. If anyone would be willing to have a quick look through a few photos once I have them sorted this would be most welcome. I do appreciate that this is 600 miles outside the Upper Thames area and that everyone is likely to be very busy at this time of the year.

    1. I'd happily take a look, show me what I missed on my recent Spain trip where the nights were too clear and cold and we caught next to nothing for 7 nights. Can you send them to me at bgymsb@gmail.com. BW, Marc

    2. Thanks for the offer. I will sort through the photos over the next few days and send you a few to look at.

  3. Looks like a very elderly Clouded Drab.

    1. Thank you. I did wonder if it might be the last Clouded Drab of the year.
