Scorched Wing

New to me is this remarkable moth, Scorched Wing, which came into my garden trap on Sunday in Hook Norton. The total count was 17 representing 10 species.

  1. It is certainly an impressive moth. I have been trapping in Sibford Ferris for just over a year now so it would be interesting to compare records at the end of the year as we are quite close (about 3-4 miles). I have caught several Scorched Wings both last year and this although they seem to be a species that often settles on the outside of the trap or on surrounding vegetation and so are vulnerable to the early birds.

    1. Indeed. I trap once a month but the counts I am getting at the moment are surprisingly small compared to two to three years ago.
