15 moths of 13 species last night including FFG Spruce Carpet and my second Merveille du Jour of the week. It also included this faded specimen (FW15mm) which I will enter on the GMS if I can get an identification. My best guess would be Brick. Any thoughts?.
Steve Lockey (Garsington)
Hello Steve, it has certainly seen better days. It isn't a Brick but is either Beaded Chestnut or Lunar Underwing and a check of its hind-wings would tell you which one for sure. Those of Lunar Underwing are illustrated in the field guide, while those of Beaded Chestnut are a fairly uniform grey colour.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave - it's a Lunar Underwing.
