Elachista

Am I safe in identifying this dark headed Elachista as altricomella, or does it need dissecting?

Also, a nice Golden Plusia from last night's trap was only the second for the garden.

  1. I'm not 100% sure about your atricomella; assuming the size fits, it does look as though that's what it is because the rear white cross-band gives a hint of being continuous rather than broken. l'll leave that one to Peter...

Very nice Golden Plusia - a species that hasn't made my garden list yet. We don't, but surely someone else here in Westcott must grow delphiniums?!

  2. I was looking at the front leg, they look white or perhaps banded, so your id is favourite. If you want to keep it for the next batch for me then probably best to do so, just to be sure.

  3. OK thanks both, I'll pop it in the freezer.

I'm not sure where the nearest delphiniums are to me either - probably not that close, hence just the two records.
