Marbled white-spot

White 'spot' doesn't really seem to do justice to this arrival, assuming my ID is correct. Marbled white-blotch, I'd say. May I also check my belief that the caterpiller shown below, from eggs laid in my trap at the end of May, is a White Ermine?  If so, talk about Ugly Ducklings. Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon

  1. Marbled White-spot is correct and the larva looks right for White Ermine, but don't take that as definitive. If you haven't already try looking at the UKLeps web-site (see bottom of list on right handside of blog)
