Tiny scrap

I'm afraid that micro moths generally leave me cold but I was beguiled by this tiny scrap which I initially took to be a fragment of leaf.  Its Lilliputian size can be seen by comparison with the Light Brown Apple moth, Epiphyas posvittana, in its dusty-looking House of Lords ermine. I can't see a better match for the titch than Caloptilia stigmatella which is new for me. Or rather, I haven't noticed it before.  Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon

  1. Hello Martin,
That is indeed Caloptilia stigmatella, the adults of which will be thinking of hibernating now before appearing again next Spring. I probably don't need to point out that some micros are MUCH smaller than that one!!
