This moth was on the fence in my garden in Aston, west Oxon this morning (15th October). My initial thought was that it was a Willow Beauty, even though the forewings seem too rounded, and the outer and central cross-lines don't appear to converge. Assuming it is a Willow Beauty, could it be f. perfumaria as it is so grey?
There was a Mallow in the trap, a new species for me.

Hello David,
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely a Willow Beauty, but I'm not sure if perfumaria is a "catch-all" for the plainer grey specimens like your example or if there will be other named forms.
