The unusually marked Vine's Rustic IS, after dissection, Vine's Rustic.

I thought I should update you all - Peter dissected this for me - the costal indent on the very well defined cross line clearly CAN occur in Vine's Rustic. I wonder how common this feature is and re-attach the same photo!

Might some readers look through their Vine's Rustic photos to see how frequently this occurs?

  1. Hi Robin, I have looked through my images of Vine's (none of which show the well-defined ante- and post-median lines of your specimen) and it is the case that many showing the typically dotted post-median line also have a dot that 'joins' the line to the dot on the costa near to the kidney mark - loosely suggesting that the post-median line curves abruptly in a basal direction near to the costa. The post-median line also often appears as a double set of marks near to the dorsum (the internal set not really dots but rather small dark marks) which I suppose may indicate the edges of your broad continuous line.

  2. Thank you John. I confess to but rarely photographing Vine's, but have a few to check over. The well-defined ante- and post median lines are really striking, hence Peter's dissection!
