... some speculatively identified micros...

A few micros we've had a guess at from recent nights in Wolvercote, but we're not really sure about. The first may be a Carpatolechia proximella, from 7th July; the second, from the same date, perhaps Schoenobius gigantella; the third some sort of Caloptilia from 10th July, but can it be pinned down any more than that and the fourth some sort of rather small, poorly-marked crambid from 6th July. As ever, all suggestions very welcome.

Possible Carpatolechia proximella, 7/7/15

Possible Schoenobius gigantella, 7/7/15

Presumed Caloptilia sp., 10/7/15

Small crambid, 6/7/15

  1. I don't think we'll be able to provide definitive IDs for any of those, Steve. Your Carpatolechia doesn't look quite right for that species and I'm more tempted by Gelechia rhombella but it would need chopping to be sure. Your second image could be Schoenobius gigantella or Chilo phragmitella, the females of which are not at all easy to tell apart. The third is indeed a Caloptilia sp., while the fourth is probably going to be Eudonia mercurella but can't be sure.
