Two micros and a pug

I hope someone can help with these three trapped last night.

Apologies for the quality of the photos.

I think the second one is Phyllonorycter lautella?

Any thoughts welcome

  1. Hello Barnaby, your first picture shows a micro-caddis (Trichoptera = hairy winged as opposed to Lepidoptera = scale winged) and if you look at an enlarged version of your image you can see just how hairy it is. You are not the first and certainly won't be the last to fall into that trap! The second is indeed a Phyllonorycter but it would need a better image to get to species as your example shows one of the most common wing patterns shown by that family (indeed it may need dissection to confirm). The pug looks to me like Common Pug.

  2. Many thanks, I had never heard of a micro caddis, so that is a novelty! And I will just have to get better photos. Thanks for the pug!
