A better weekend
The last 2 nights have been better here in Milton Keynes, averaging around 35 species. New for my garden Saturday came a female Bulrush Wainscot and Sundays NFS were Apotomis betuletana and Agriphila inquinatella. Saturday i got NFY Dotted Rustic and last nights NFY was Dusky Thorn.
Is Dotted Rustic a rare moth in Bucks? in Northants its hardly ever seen these days.

The Dotted Rustic went through a decline in the late 80's in Bucks, but seemingly recovered around 2011-2013. Fewer records again in 2014
ReplyDeleteHi Darren, Dotted Rustic is known as one of those moths that go through phases of 'boom and bust', although it seems to be more 'bust' than 'boom' these days. In Bucks I think it would best be described as very uncommon at the moment. Following quite a few sightings over the period that Peter mentions (2011-13) I saw none in 2014 but have had two in the garden so far this year.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have any last year either, but had 4 in 2013. Hopefully this will be a good year for them.
