Home-grown migrants

Two Bordered Straws came to the garden actinic trap here at Westcott, Bucks last night.  The fact that they are darker in appearance than those seen previously is understood to indicate locally-bred individuals.  The only other moth of interest was my first Red Underwing of the season.

  1. I had my second one of the year on Sunday night and like yours above it was darker than the one I had in mid June.

  2. A nice catch, Dave, and I've been hoping for something like this here in Aylesbury. I tried rearing a few larvae from eggs I obtained from my June female, but they both failed to pupate.
