Pyrausta aurata?

I've always been slightly confused over aurata and purpuralis and hope I've got it right.
Picture of Pyrausta nigrata just because it's my first!

  1. Hi Steve, that's a nice clear shot of Pyrausta purpuralis. With the wings open sufficiently wide (as in your picture) you can see the extra whitish-yellow area on the hindwing in addition to the more obvious band. Pyrausta aurata doesn't have that extra marking.
