More cloud and and a slightly higher temperature resulted in a better catch last night including what I think must be a Silver Cloud. I know they have been recorded just over the border in Warwickshire but don't know the current situation in the Upper Thames region.

Wow, it certainly is, Andy! I suspect that may be a first for Oxfordshire but I'm sure Martin T will let us know (it has never been recorded here in Bucks). Possibly just a vagrant but it is tempting to think that it might be creeping our way. The moth's stronghold is in those counties which border the River Severn and when Peter Hall moved to Worcestershire it became one of his garden specialities!
ReplyDeleteThree were recorded last year 4 miles away just over the border in Warwickshire. It would be good to know about any other Oxfordshire records. It is tempting to make some comment about clouds and silver linings! Anyway back to the micros now as last night produced quite a few.
ReplyDeleteHi Andy
ReplyDeleteYes, that's new for VC23. I checked the database although I really didn't need to. According to David Brown's book it is locally "fairly plentiful" in SW Warwickshire having been recorded there since the 1970s. Therefore it isn't as surprising as it may seem. Good record though.
Thank you that is good to know.
ReplyDeleteWorcestershire Dave? Herefordshire. 2 in my garden trap last night
