Pug - but which?

I could not determine this pug (Saturday 3rd, in Oxford) although the markings were clear, including the prominent black fleck in mid-wing and black stripe across the abdomen. It was small and wings narrow, hindwing slightly curled down. Any thoughts most welcome.

We were even more overrun with square-spot rustics than previous years this time (57) and managed a rush veneer but no other migrants.

  1. Hello Andrew,
That's Cypress Pug, which is just about the most likely pug to find in your trap at the moment. It is well-established locally.

  2. Thank you. I had clearly overlooked this species and have not had it before. I gather it is spreading and not surprised that it is around us as numerous cypresses nearby. Most grateful for your help, as ever.
