Hi, any guidance or thoughts on the Oak Hook-Tip in the picture? Although am wary, i responded to a media post of current south coast and in particular Guernsey reports of Watsonalla Uncinula (Spiny Oak Hook-Tip) a moth of continental Europe, by checking mine. My most recent Penn garden moth of the 10th Aug, appears to exhibit the narrower white & black tips. Its not like the wider black marked specimens that i have on record. If this is, or is a candidate, I'm not sure how to record as I failed to locate an individual classification on iRecord, so it would be an in-the-margins note of binaria presently.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately not retained, I considered it a binaria until i read the Spiny posting & became aware. I think they have been subject of discussion of late on Channel Isles and or south coast moth blogs
DeleteThat's a real shame and your chance of glory gone by sadly. It looks a good shout but I'd need to get it under the microscope to verify things. It would have generated both county and national interest I think.
ReplyDeleteAgree & it is a coincidence that the last OHT i had, has this apparent characteristic fitting Spiny. The other request from the original blog post i read, was for others to check theirs to see if this is some kind of invasive year & its going under the radar. So be interesting to pick up on any overview by end of summer for the south. As said, i failed to locate an Irecord classification which if the case, may not be helping
