Acleris hastiana ?

I suspect that this specimen which I caught last night in Sonning is the same species as the one which Andy Newbold just posted. I posted it to @MothIDUK on Twitter who said it may be a form of Acleris hastiana - would colleagues agree? Also caught March Moth, Early Grey, Small Quaker, Common Quaker, Hebrew Character, Epiphyas postvittana and Tortricodes alternella, so nicely up and running for the year.

  1. It certainly looks the same as mine. A. hastiana would actually be a new garden record for me so lets see what the experts say. That looks a pretty good catch. I hope it is a sign of things to come - they haven't really go going here yet. A March Moth was my only macro last night.

  2. Hi Alastair,
It would need dissection, I'm afraid. As Andy says, there are similarities to his moth and I wouldn't rule out hastiana as a possibility (I had one myself last night). However, although extremely variable across loads of forms, hastiana is usually just a little bit more colourful than this!

  3. Probably schalleriana but looks rather worn and as Dave says dissection would be desirable.
