Footman

Quiz question:  just going by the attached photo and with no reference to the hind wing, what species of Footman would you say this was?


I was dusting off some old moth photos and noticed that this was labelled as Scarce, but it does look very like Hoary.  Photo was taken on 31st July 2006 from a catch on the 30th.  I think this would pre date the current first for Bucks, but without the specimen, the photo is the only record.

Thoughts?

    Hello Adam, you could well be correct but I don't think we'll ever really know for sure without the hind-wings having been checked. The moth was known from Berkshire well before it started to appear in Bucks and in Marlow you are very close to Berkshire...!!
