A colourful start to the day

At dawn today my trap was covered in Scarlet Tigers - 14 in total including those in the trap.


Also a large number of micros giving rise to a few more questions.
Is 1 Calamotropha paludella? (16mm)
2 looks a bit like the Grapholita lobarzewskii which you identified for me last year. I caught two of theses last night. (8mm)
3 was only 5mm in length and 4 was about 8mm. Any help with these would be most welcome.

    Hi Andy, Calamotropha paludella is correct. It would be worthwhile running all three tortrix pictures past Martin Corley. You could be correct with the first while the second is probably Cochylis nana (the size would certainly fit. The third might perhaps be Spatalistis bifasciana which is rather more common locally than the books suggest. It appears regularly in most good oak woodland in the Bucks/Oxon border area and I've had it once in the garden here.

    Thank you for your time in what must be an incredibly busy week for you. I actually had to stop myself putting the trap out last night just to give myself some time to catch up with moths and some of those other jobs that need doing.
