Confusing Noctuid - Longwick
The shape of this moth struck me as interesting when perusing the egg boxes this morning. Having a broken wing tip gives it a slight strangeness as does an overall dark wash which is hiding a number of cross lines. The closest I can get to it is some photographs of dark Mottled Willow on the internet. Its wing length is 15mm which also fitted ( at least on one side!). I'm sure I am probably wrong and it is something common but battered!

It is battered. What about a Brown Rustic?
ReplyDeletethe shape would suggest the Brown Rustic to me.
