Flounced Chestnut

I had identified this as Beaded Chestnut. However, it has been suggested that it is, in fact, a Flounced Chestnut. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  1. Hi Nic,

Out of interest, who suggested Flounced? For me that is one of the many forms of Beaded Chestnut, as you originally thought. Flounced Chestnut has virtually disappeared from our area. I've never seen it in Bucks, where we have only eight post-millennium records (and some of those I'd suggest are likely misidentifications of Beaded Chestnut!).

  2. Many thanks Dave. I had it posted on my Flickr photo page and someone unknown to me had suggested the alternative ID.
    Regards,
    Nic.

  3. Obvious less for everyone here - to paraphrase a fairly recent book review - there are plenty of idiots out there on the internet ready to misidentify your moths for you. None of us is infallible and pleased to that you didn't belive this particyular idiot and came to us for confirmation.
