My personal highest count to a single trap is 90 (86 males, 4 females) in Bernwood Forest on 28th November 2014 so it depends upon habitat. In the garden I've never had more than six at once, so for a garden your dozen would seem to be a very good score!
This post encouraged me to look back at my December moth records. This year I have not had more than 5 in one night but in the previous 3 years in each year I seem to have had a single exceptionally good night with 29, 13 and 18 recorded. These peaks all occurred in the second half of November. Most nights 6 or fewer is the norm.

Thanks for that summary Dave, much appreciated.
