Clouded Drab confirmation

I think this one is a Clouded Drab but I am not 100% sure looking at the antennae.

  1. Hi Andy,
Yes, I'm afraid it is just Clouded Drab. Good though it is that we're all on the alert for the rarer species now that one has been seen, I suspect that you (and I) are rather too far away from any likely sources of Northern Drab! Still, hopefully you'll have Silver Cloud to look forward to in a couple of weeks...

  2. ...and regarding the antennae, your image shows exactly what those on Clouded Drab look like (little "stumps", barely visible to the naked eye) whereas those on Lead-coloured are obviously feathered.

  3. Many thanks. I thought this was going to be the case. Hopefully a Silver Cloud will appear in the not too distant future. At least an Early Thorn and Brindled Beauty appeared last night to make the catch a little more interesting.

  4. Don't forget that its only the males of Lead-coloured Drab that have distinctly feathered antennae. I wouldn't necessarily rule out Northern Drab on your location but forewing shape is distinctive.
