Am I right in thinking this is Acleris cristana? Not sure whether the dark patch in the middle is a raised scale tuft, or just a dark patch, but the overall shape looks better for this species rather than A. hastiana. Came to light last night in oak woodland.

ReplyDeleteThat is, as you suggest, a very smart example of Acleris cristana. The scale tufts do get worn and by this time after hibernation can sometimes be almost non-existent.
