Puzzled of Thrupp

Modest numbers but good variety on the warm night just passed; Small Waved Umber, Iron Prominent, Pine Beauty, Brimstone, Poplar Hawk, Swallow Prominent - and this pair on which I'd much appreciate help.  Is the top one a worn Orange Footman, the only one of the family which seems to be on the wing this early? And have I a Heart and Dart below or a (to me) unusually marked Hebrew Character? Or something altogether else?  Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon

  1. Hi Martin Orange Footman and Hebrew Character, both worn. H&D has a dark collar and rests with the forewings folded over one another.

  2. Thanks so much Martin. I feel slightly less hopeless than usual as I'd at least surmised what turns out to be the right answer. I saw our Death's Head friend Chris at Kirtlington two weeks ago, incidentally, and shared happy memories of the great event. All warmest M
