Not with any certainty at all Steve, but the shape and general appearance suggest Tawny Shears to me.
Thanks Dave, I have scoured the books and that was the only configuration of markings that came near. It made its escape pretty quickly.
Shame really because despite what the books say, Tawny Shears is now quite a rare moth in our area.
Very little about this suggests Tawny Shears to me and it is not possible to identify it from this photo.
Looks like a Large Nutmeg with bad lighting and at funny angle to me but as Martin says not possible to identify with any certainty from photo
