Westcott, Bucks

Unlike Marc's results in Didcot, last night's garden collection here contained no real surprises.  On what was quite a good night weather-wise, 266 moths of 21 species came to the actinic light or its environs and, surprisingly, this time they included not a single micro.  As seems to be usual at this time of year, more than 40 moths were picked up off the lawn beyond the edge of the sheet laid under the trap.  The catch comprised Treble Brown Spot (1, the first time I've had a second-brood specimen), Mallow (1), Light Emerald (1), Large Yellow Underwing (15), Setaceous Hebrew Character (4), Square-spot Rustic (2), Green-brindled Crescent (1), Deep-brown Dart (3), Black Rustic (37), Red-line Quaker (2), Yellow-line Quaker (2), Brick (4), Beaded Chestnut (50), Lunar Underwing (134), Barred Sallow (1), Pink-barred Sallow (2), Sallow (2), Dusky-lemon Sallow (1), Copper Underwing (1), Straw Dot (1) & Snout (1).

  1. Last night's catch here had a few I wasn't really expecting including Yellow-tail, Swallow-tailed, Heart and Dart, Pandemis cerasana (extremely battered but just enough left to identify) and Plutella porrectella. Also my first Green-brindled Crescent, Red-Green Carpet and November(agg) moths of the year.
