Better than nothing...

I've not been lucky enough to get a Clifden Nonpareil in my actinic trap this year (yet), but found an unmistakable hindwing on the pavement near my house this morning - see photos. I couldn't see any of the other wings or other body parts. Perhaps the moth was eaten high above by a bat, or simply hit by a car?

  1. At least that's enough to identify the moth, John, so please do record it. I'd suspect a bat - they can take surprisingly large moths. We have Brown Long-eareds on patrol here every night which are only medium-sized bats and earlier this year I was left with a set of wings from a Privet Hawk (hope that gave it indigestion!).
