A Blog for moth recorders in Bucks, Berks and Oxon
This looks like Y cagnagella to me, but I know this genus is tricky. We have spindleberry in the garden.
Can I be certain from the pattern of spots and the lack of any grey or not?
Thanks, David
Hello David,Unfortunately Yponomeuta cagnagella (uses spindle), malinellus (apple) and padella (blackthorn) can't be told apart as adults so for a safe record you'd need to find larvae on the correct food-plant and then rear them.
That''s very helpful, Dave - thank you!
