Eggars - garden first

A surprise addition to my Stoke Goldington, Bucks, garden list last night, when two scarce and impressive Oak Eggars were attracted to my actinic Robinson trap.

  1. Hello Keith,
A very nice record. It is interesting that Oak Eggar manages to survive in the countryside at seemingly an even lower level than Emperor Moth in the northern half of Bucks. I don't see the moth very often and haven't had one in the garden since 2018. However, I remember being given a virgin female raised by Ched George in early August 2020 which was taken out and about locally for an afternoon and she managed to lure in males at Arncott, Brill and Wotton Underwood within less than ten minutes at each spot. Perhaps they're just good at hiding from those of us with light traps!
