Alder Moth

Amongst the species added to the garden list for the first time in 2015 was Alder Moth which had the honour of becoming the 400th macro recorded here.  It was therefore very nice to see the return of this smart moth last night amongst an otherwise indifferent catch of 15 species.  Hebrew Character is the only Orthosia still appearing every night and last night's single specimen had a very odd-looking 'character' on the left wing (the one on the right wing was normal).

  1. That's interesting Mister Wilton, I was trapping in Ceredigion last night (beat your 15 species with 25 species including a Lunar Thorn), but one of the Hebrew Characters showed exactly the same markings you point out. I wish I'd photographed it now.

  2. I'd be very pleased to see Lunar Thorn here! Only two Bucks sightings post-millennium and they could both be considered a tad suspicious as the other 100+ records are all pre-1985.
