Tiny


Least Black Arches and Common Swift are my latest newcomers, along with the tiny character above. It looks very similar to the one below, which came on May 11 last year, and which Ben Sale of Essex Moths suggested was Elachista apicipunctella. Any expert thoughts much appreciated.  Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon

  1. I'm afraid it would need a better picture of either one for a certain ID, Martin. The older picture does give the impression of showing the main identifying features for apicipunctella (a white head and a third white spot behind those at the costa and tornus) but I can't see any sign of them on the more recent one. There are some look-alikes, unfortunately.
