Trio of queries

May I just ask about these characters which came at the end of last week just before we headed for Suffolk where, unusually, I ran the trap and met my first Treble Brown Spot.  I think that Carpet is Common Marbled and the Wainscot Smoky but the rather worn-looking visitor is beyond me (and maybe is too frayed to ID).  Martin Wainwright, Thrupp, Oxon

  1. Hello Martin, the top picture is not a Carpet but is one of the Foxglove/Toadflax Pug pair (and I think Toadflax in this case although happy to be corrected), the middle one looks to me like a worn Shoulder-striped Wainscot (it is still a little early yet for Smoky), while the last is indeed a bit too far gone to ID with certainty but I'd suggest a very tired Rustic Shoulder-knot.

    1. Consulting Riley & Prior, the black area at the base is narrow, which means it is a Toadflax Pug
