Nemapogon cloacella

Nemapogon cloacella I think but does it need dissection for confirmation? The Berks micro moth verification spread-sheet suggests it does but the Norfolk moths website indicates not.

About 8mm in length and caught this morning sitting on my wheelie-bin.

  1. Hi Andy, it looks like cloacella to me but there are some very similar but very uncommon species so it would be worth getting one inspected if you haven't done so previously. Of those other species I've had wolfiella here so it is not impossible for them to turn up in our area.

  2. I’d be happy with that as cloacella if it turned up here. I also get some koenigi (much prefer the old wolffiella name),which are a much blacker looking moth in my experience. I’ve also had some ruricolella, but that is a much browner looking moth.

  3. Thank you for your comments. As I have not had cloacella before I will get it checked. In fact last year I thought I had koenigi but had let it go before I realised that it should be checked - I try to be more cautious now.
