I think I have a Lesser Cream Wave but I'd appreciate a confirmation.
Also an Ear Moth that will have to go down as agg. but it looks like only the Ear Moth itself will be around here.
For recording purposes should it beAmphipoea agg. or Amphipoea sp.?

Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteYes to "Ear Moth agg." which is certainly the option to take if you use MapMate. If you haven't already done so it would be worth getting an individual checked by Peter Hall so that Ear Moth can at least be confirmed once for your site. You are correct that the other Ear species are very unlikely indeed in our area (but you never know...!).
Oh, and yes to Lesser Cream Wave.
Deletethanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteI have to contradict Dave slightly here. I would have dissected this individual as it looks considerably like Saltern Ear, which does occasionally occur in our area, most likely as a stray from the large populations along the Thames estuary. It is worth keeping those that look like they might be Saltern, especially in hot weather when things are clearly moving further than they normally do.
