More queries

Several more uncertainties from my garden in Wolvercote, Oxfordshire: mainly micros, and again dating back as far as May.

One or the other Anacampsis species, 29/6/19; can they be separated on appearance?

Agonopterix arenella or yeatiana, 23/5/19

Possible Dioryctria sp., 25/5/19

Possible Epagoge grotiana, 16/5/19

Possible Lesser Cream Wave, 29/6/19

Another mysterious pug, 22/5/19
All help, as ever, very much appreciated.

  1. Hello Steve,
I'd go along with Epagoge grotiana and Lesser Cream Wave but I'm afraid the others will have to remain as uncertainties. With regards to the Anacampsis, it clearly states in the field guide "...examination of the genitalia is needed to confirm the identity of either species, unless they have been reared".

  2. The third one looks like an Ephestia sp.

  3. I'd say the tortricid looks more like Syndemis musculana, which is larger and greyish. Photographs can make moths look more brightly coloured than they are, as is the case, incidentally, with my recent Udea fulvalis. The pug looks like a worn Oak-tree Pug.

I'm surprised there aren't more photographs on here this week after Thursday night was so incredibly warm.

  4. Thanks, all. Martin, time permitting, I'll be putting up some photos from Thursday night this evening.
