Two puzzles

This looks like a weird footman but footmen have yellow heads, black eyes and no crest. F/w 14mm.

This understated moth has eluded identification. Marbled Minor agg seemed a likely slot for it but, apart from Cloaked Minor - which isn't dark, the wing shape seems wrong.

  1. The top one is the rather lovely oncocera semirubella. It started appearing in my garden last year and as Dave Wilton has said appears to be spreading quite quickly. I think the second is Marbled Minor agg, probably Tawny.

  2. Hi Adam

You just beat me to it. I've just found it in the micro book.

Many thanks for the confirmation, Dave

  3. Have you considered one of the dark forms of Cloaked Minor?

  4. I think you're right Martin. I haven't seen a dark form of this and didn't realise they had one, but seems to fit.

  5. Dark form of Cloaked Minor it is then. Many thanks to you both.
