Old record from Stoke Goldington

I came across this image from 21 Aug 2004, which I had originally assigned to a very abberant Flounced Rustic, but now I'm not so sure. Comments welcomed.

  1. Hi Keith,

An interesting looking moth! I think I would have been more inclined towards Feathered Gothic but it is all a bit academic now, especially as we can't see the antennae. Oddities like that are well worth hanging on to until an expert has had a chance to comment and dissection will sometimes be the only way to come to a final conclusion.

    1. It is interesting, and as you say, a while ago. Also unfortunately well before the blog, so I was kind of on my own at the time, with only Martin once a year to keep me company (and the occasional meet with the legend that was George Higgs!).

  2. Might be worth passing picture to BM(NH)- Geoff Martin (keeper of UK Leps.). It is so distinctive (but what species!) that it might have a varietal name. I can forward a picture for you if you wish. rpkj1n@udcf.gla.ac.uk
