ID please (and camera advice)

hi, I was thinking this was something like Coleophora albicosta or striatipennella. Unfortunately I managed to kill it.

The other thing is I have a new camera - still a tiny campact but I think the images are better - but these seem to be a bit blocky, I'm pretty clueless on these things - is there an obvious thing I should look at to make the images clearer?

  1. Hello Mark, there are unfortunately very few Coleophorids which can be identified for certain without recourse to dissection.

Regarding the camera, I'm not really sure what you mean by blocky. The images above seem to me to be acceptable from a small compact when you consider how small that moth is.

  2. thanks Dave. I've confirmed with larger subjects I get the same thing and as far as I can tell it's a noise issue caused by having too high an ISO.
