I would just like to check that I am not missing something more interesting. I think the first is just another Common Rustic agg. but the moth seemd larger and more robust than others I have caught. Is the Pug just a White-spotted?
The Athrips mouffetella is a new garden record although I see they are classed as common.

Hello Andy,
ReplyDeleteI can't see that the first image is anything other than Common Rustic agg. Pugs are notoriously difficult to do from pictures but for me your specimen looks like a fairly well-marked Common Pug, albeit with the discal spot a little more prominent than usual. It doesn't look to me like White-spotted, on which the ground colour is usually a more uniform grey (your specimen has brown tones in there which are another feature of Common). Nice to get Athrips mouffetella. It is indeed quite common and is certainly a regular visitor to the garden here, although only one or two a year.
Thank you. I had thought Common Pug at first and then wasn't sure with the discal spot.
